Tyre help please ..

I have these nice 17's ( Ex-WR1 STi )on my car with RE-070 225/45/17's but get rubbing between the wheel-arch and the outer edge ..

The question is can I fit less wide tyres like 205/45/17's or are ( as someone else suggested ) my wheels 17.5 tho' the tyres do say 17? face-icon-small-blush.gif

Plus will this stop the tramlining problem ? .. and before anyone says it it's not the driver ! face-icon-small-tongue.gif

Cheers,

i'll put 205/45/17 on .you won't get tramlining with these on & if your car is lowered it should no probs either.

tyre brand is total personal m8.it depends what you want.

is it ultimate dry grip - try yoko pradas.

is it ultimate wet grip - try uniroyal rainsport(very good for classics)

or is it a good combination - try Toyo t1s(thats what i've got)

i probably go for uniroyals m8 they are good in the dry aswell

Got a set o toyo proxie T1-s tyres for sale mate.....215/45/17s.....good levels o grip...good in rain but rub on my car due to the vw alloys i fitted...huge offset compared to scoob wheels....would let them go for £225....done less than a 100 miles on car!!!!

What width rims you got mate 7.0 7.5 0r 8.0s.....225 down to 205 is a big drop in width and sidewall size.....i would recomend trying 215s mate......but wouldnt recomend 40 profiles if you using them on the track...they roll over too much....i scrubbed the writing off a brand new set o uniroyals and done the same with proxies!!!

got loads o part worn tyres if you fancy trying a few sets on to see what works mate!!!

cheers

Thanks Peter, Andy + Russell,

Right .. got it now .. sticking with 17's .. Only prob is Peter you say go for 205's and Andy you say 215's ... Will the handling be different with these ? Just want whats best .. Have heard from quite a few here that Toyos are good so will prob go for them face-icon-small-smile.gif

So just to recap .. I'll be able to fit either of these on my nice wheels ? face-icon-small-happy.gif

Thanks again guys for your patience ,

Standard fit tyres on a P1 are 205/45/17 so you should be fine with 215/45/17's. When compared to the standard 205/50/16's these 2 sizes give an overall diameter increase of 0.8% and 2.3% respectively. It's generally recommended to say below 2.5% difference overall.

In case you think I'm really sad face-icon-small-blush.gif and worked out all these on my calculator, take a look here ....

Hi Dave , Thanks for that ..

Which would you go for ? 215/45/17 or 205/45/17 ? And do you know if it'll be okay to fit these on these lovely wheels I have ? face-icon-small-happy.gif Never did have the origional 16's ..

Steve,

I would advise that you use either 205/45x17 (not too much choice in sizes), or 215/40x17. These are the closest in rolling diameter to the 205/50x16 or 205/55x15 tyres that your car was designed for.

The RE-070s fitted to your existing wheels do have hard sidewalls, so they will ber very twitchy on roads thwre the camber changes a lot. Very grippy and superb feedback in the dry though.

Most other tyres will be quieter in use as well as being better in the wet.

Whichever you chose it would be my advice to steer clear of the 40 profiles mate!!!!

experiance has shown me that they dont perform /wear well on track...so stands to reason that they may do the samreon the road...but this is only my own personal opinion!!!

cheers
