the squiggle Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Correct Jamie They were fitted with a Volumex supercharger and a massive KKK turbo Dont you just wish the Grp B era survived Grant
dougster Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 "In the 1986 season, series of accidents involving spectators as well as led to the death of Lancia's top driver Henri Toivonen and navigator Sergio Cresto happened. Group B was accused of being too powerful and too light to be controllable. As a result, FIA axed it after that season." Possibly not. Are there not hillclimb events closed to spectators and Rally X events that still use Gp B spec cars?
st3ph3n Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 That's glorious. Bring back Group B cars for Tarmac and hill climbs.
Nelsdir Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 If you liked that you're gonna love this "Climb Dance" Ari Vatanen doing Pikes Peak in 1988 in a Peagot 405 T16. Best driving clip I've seen. Been kicking around a while but worth watching. Crappy low res 8mb Save as at 60mb Crackin'. Neil
the squiggle Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 OK maybe it is just me that wishes Grp B survived a little bit longer Grant
MY94 Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 I worked in the Alps for a year or so,all I can say is that takes more balls than I've got. I know that if he lost it, its a long and deadly drop to the bottom of the mountain, thats a ski run in the winter!! Thanks for posting this M8,awsome I used to drive those roads in a green transit van,it struggled fully ladden in second gear,so used to thrash it in first to get a littlle speed up,then second until we ran out of juice, then back into first and so on.Needless to say,the AA ended up transporting it back to Scotland for us,thank god for AA eurocover!
ANDYJDMSTI Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 << OK maybe it is just me that wishes Grp B survived a little bit longer Grant >> I'm with you on that one Grant.......................at the end of the day they get paid the money so they take the chances. They know the risks involved. too many "pc fannies" involved nowadays. BRING BACK GP B!!!!!
jcscoob Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 thats mrs jcscoob's fave car even more than the scoob
Gee Wr1 Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Cool vid Yep wish Group B was still around to. What i would do for a 6R4 or even just a ride in one! The 6R4 & the short wheelbase Quattro were my 1st dream cars, never been into supercars always loved rally cars If you liked the vid you should try & get a copy of the "Too fast to race" dvd from Duke it's the Group B story with a bit on each car & some great footage. As Dougster said about the safety it's MAD when you see how close the cars were to the spectators! & the incar from the final Evolution of the Quattro is just crazy!!! Also got the 6R4 story on video F1 in a forest, YES PLEASE Seen the Pikes Peak one before, also a great vid
the squiggle Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 << Imagine these two together. >> Which reminds me! Do you still have my ultra rare in-car footage of McRae driving a Grp B 6R4 through the Scottish forests. My collection of 24 rally videos and DVDs including 6 on the Grp B era is looking quite odd without the master in his place Grant
the squiggle Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Colin does own the 6R4 with a £2k pearlescent paint job. Used it the past 2 years on the McRae forest rally in Perth which both Imy and myself attended. Gee...... the sequel to "Too fast to Race", funnily enough called "Too fast to race 2", is equally spectaculer. I have been lucky enough to have a full chat run in an EVO2 spec RS200, with an est 650-700 horses Andy ....gotta agree with you, the drivers knew the risks and rewards that were involved in hurtling a 500hp machine through the forests. Those who survived went on to be regarded as the greatest drivers that ever walked this earth and those who did not, learnt a very harsh lessons in the laws of physics. Grant
