dougster Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 I have heard the A77 SPECs are not operational until July but I don't fancy testing this info!!!
scoobymadburd Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Well they are up and raring to go traffic cop told us yesterday they are in full operation the now!!! Be careful Maybe she was bumming us but??? claire
Gumball Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 just go that fast the camera blows up with immense pressure LOL Thats what i wouldnt do
imprezapete Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Am I not right in thinking that these are just speed over a set distance cameras? if so just do a negitive amount of speed over the same distance as you were speeding to bring it back to the correct time over distance. Or is this one that can tell your speed a mile away?
eddiec Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 haha i wonder if that would work thrash along for a couple of miles at 120 then pull over have a wee rest and then carry on your journey ... a bit excessive but would be worth it now and again
IanJ Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 This link tells you how specs works and is even kind enough to tell you where they are operating
st3ph3n Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 So where does it start and indeed end? It can't be the entire distance surely? It says A77 Ayr to Stranraer on their website. I don't know if I could drive the whole way from Ayr to Stranraer whilst speedometer watching without either having an aneurysm, mental breakdown, or terrible road accident because I wasn't watching the road enough.
Boyakasha Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 This is the sort of BS that makes you wonder if it's worth have a high performance car. Talk about big brother is watching you. As some have said already, if you are concentrating so much on not going over the speed limit then you cannot be watching the road properly, thus having a negative affect on road safety. Come on Tony get a feckin grip
Guest Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 So where does it start and indeed end? It can't be the entire distance surely? was down A77 on sun, from what i remember there are 2 a couple of miles b4 monkton roundabout coming from glasgow, and plenty more all the way to Girvan(at least a dozen i reckon). dont know if there are any after that. hope dougsters right and they dont come into operation till july, especially the first 2 first time on A77 for awhle and my last if i can help it .stick to the back roads.much more fun ----------------------------------------------------------------- "lets be careful out there"
Gumball Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 get past the first one and slow right down. then dont spead again until your off that stretch. (if your going to fast that is) or take the fron plate off your car and pretend it fell off. i think this reply is going to get deleted somehow, but its funny
eddiec Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 bit of a bummer if you stay around nottingham i had a look at the link above and seems like half the cameras they have operating are locate around there
MarkMac Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Or get a motorbike - no front plate - problem solved I heard that only 2 are working on any one day. Thing is it could be the ones at each end or 2 right next to each other, only the cops know. One interesting interesting fact from a reliable source: Gatso prosecution = speedlimit + 10% + 3mph (70mph limit = 80mph prosecution) SPECS prosecution = speedlimit +10% + 10 mph (70mph limit = 87mph prosecution) And they definitely don't go on till mid July on the A77 After then I will be cruising at 86mph (Once I'm sure that this info is accurate, of course) MarkMac
st3ph3n Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 We'll let you test that Mark. Do let us know the results. You could always pass the cameras sideways so they get a shot of you looking out the side window at where the hell you're going, rather than the number plates.
MY94 Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Thing is,that stretch of road was dangerous and needed cameras several years ago,but now that the road has been updated it seems rather pointless now.Another stealth tax on us all as far as I'm concerned. Back to SPECS,if they are going to improve road safety then fine.,but lets be honest. We all know that the only way to improve safety on the road is no make people better drivers. And cameras don't give out driving lessons!!!We need constant yearly lessons/tests to make roads safer and to check that elderly drivers are still safe....IMHO So that said, how will those cameras make people safer/better drivers? It won't, but someones making some money,so it's all alright then.
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 I had the displeasure of experiencing SPECS last weekend, findings as follows :- - resultant blood pressure rise when i clocked the fisrt warning sign - everyone went @ 60 on the dualler section even though it's a NSL road at that point i.e 70 mph limit - w.r.t above I got paranoid and went @ 60 mph too incase i had misinterpreted something - on the single lane section down to Girvan a lorry was doing 40 mph. NO-ONE would overake it so everyone went at the lorrys speed for 20 mins ! - these yellow vultures will never beat the shiny ersed traffic cops - after Girvan en-route to Newton Stewart you'll encounter no optimax for miles but some of the best roads that the SIDC recently went on. - the Micro Road Pilot was ace and picked up the vultures no problemo. Weirdly it would have beeped the entire length of the SPECS section to keep you aware. Luckily it has a mute function but the screen flashed away to keep you vigilant - GPS & car tax per mile is undoubtedly on the way Cal ( hater of SPECS and the nanny state)
andy Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 << Or get a motorbike - no front plate - problem solved >> That in itself opens a can of worms. By not treating all road users equally, are they in breach of our human rights. Given the screwiness of Brussels, you'd probably get off with it.
st3ph3n Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 There was a top article on the BBC website yesterday. A write in job from a girl just outside Dalkeith commenting on her village being a death trap filled with speeding motorists. Not a camera in sight. Plenty of good comments about cameras in all the places where money can be made - straight sections of road perfect for overtaking - and none where lifes will be saved.
andy Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 Saw that article and agree mostly, but if the stance of Lothian & Borders is as said then why do they have them on the Newbridge underpass? No fatalities there. Those were amongst the first to be installed and paid for themselves in two weeks. Until they start fitting them where it matters - e.g. outside schools, or in villages like that mentioned etc, they're cash cows and nobody can convince me otherwise.
alistair_learmonth Posted October 14, 2005 Posted October 14, 2005 I was informed that changing lanes from one camera stop to another, the distince measured or timed is on the same lane only. Its not that bright to caculate if you change your lane, though I would not wish to try it or condone such antics, me a ministers son and all. lol
