sheep Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 I was up at knockhill today at the RS owners meeting, saw one poor scooby owner get smashed into by a nutter going to fast into the hair pin and loosing it, spinning his car and chatching the guy in the scooby . The pictures below were taken on a mobile. Nutter Pi$$ed off scoobies owners car. Picture removed by Willie
the squiggle Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Heard a rumour of an altercation at KH Indeed a graphic illustration of the dangers of track days Who owns the Scoob and did you leave an SIDC flyer? Grant Cracking quality of pics even with a mobile
teknopete Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Sheep, Thanks for keeping every1 upto date on the days events. However the owner of the scoob might not appreciate a pic of his mota being posted complete with number plates ? I`d take down the pic ed the plate then repost buddy Pete
sheep Posted June 20, 2005 Author Posted June 20, 2005 tecknopete cheers for getting the pics altered Grant i didnt think it was a good idea to give out any flyers , the guy looked ready to kill somone,
Gumball Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 i would have thought that the post would have better off not put up for his insurance purposes? maybe im wrong?
dougster Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 I agree about the pics being posted. If I get a PM or e-mail I will remove.
dougster Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Registration has been removed. I'll leave it until I hear from the owner or thread starter.
dad Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 was this a one incident or was it typical of the driving style at the RS days? i was going to go aswell... gutted for the owner, hope no one was hurt
DR Motosport Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 The owner doesn't post on here, and isn't an SIDC member. I just heard about this tonight, as I know him. The Sierra driver is supposed to be a karting champion (aged 18) trying the car for the first time. But totally lost it braking for the hairpin. Went onto the grass on the inside of the track, couldn't stop and bounced back across the track and collected the Subaru who was taking the normal line through the hairpin. I also heard the marshalls had to hold him back from killing him, so he started battering the car with his helmet. I'm going to see it tomorrow - he should be calmer now. David
Johnny50 Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 From what i was reading on another forum, the front wheel came off the Sierra before the actual impact ?
Podgie Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Can we get one thing straight here, I am the owner of the white cosworth that was involved in the accident at knockhill on sunday, the driver who smashed the car was a customer of mine who has a big powered track cosworth, to be fair he was trying to push the car which was silly especially in the wet,as he came down to the hairpin on the right hand side of the track he hit the puddle of water as he was braking and started to aqua plain from there on in he was just a passenger and could not do anything. the mechanic who works with me was driving the car in the morning, he is the former brittish gokart champion and at only 18 is the current scottish rally champion and as on every other forum you will see people saying how awsome the boy was flinging the car around the hairpin etc. its a shame what happened but thats the risk you take when going to a track day ,i feel sorry for the subaru driver but how do you think i feel ,£10000 to build a car to finish it on the saturday and to get written of on the sunday without even having a shot of the car.
Johnny50 Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 Thanks for putting the records straight. But sorry to see your motor end up like this.
imprezapete Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 So I take it the Scooby driver is going to have his car fixed my the driver that hit him?
teknopete Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Hi Podgie, I`m sorry 2 c both the cars in such a state buddy, not 2 familiar with the cossie and as such I may be wrong but going by the pix it would appear that the scoob (who had the line for the hairpin) came off the worst, due to the crease in the roof and in effect loss of structural integrity. I hope your customer is going to square up with you for the damage to your car and IMHO he should also fork out for the scoob As you say << he came down to the hairpin on the right hand side of the track >> so are we correct in thinking then that he was trying to undercut the scoob who had the race line? If so then perhaps a trackday BAN would be in order, 2 give him time to think about what he`s done. I know this isn`t going to sort either of the cars but it may make people think twice before they try to execute stupid manuvers. Pete
Podgie Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 He was not trying to undercut the subaru, the subaru was already round the hairpin when the cosworth hit him, anyway as you would know a 4wd and a 2wd have different lines for the hairpin , the simple fact of the matter is the guy driving the cosworth hit the puddle and aqua plained i dont know why everyone is saying he should pay for the subaru ,you sign on the dotted line to go on the track and you run the risk of something like this happening and if you really want to get childish about it you could say why was a subaru on the track when it was a RS owners club day. I have to bite the bullet and fix my car at my expense i suggest the subaru guy does the same
Johnny50 Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 << if you really want to get childish about it you could say why was a subaru on the track when it was a RS owners club day. >> Same reason as SIDC and other clubs allow other makes of cars onto their track sessions !!
kulataz Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 I agree with Podgie her. I have done many track days years ago and it is always at your own risk. If you love your car that much you should have trackday insurance. I will never attend another hot hatch day for the fear of this happening as the guys there are mental and dont care. This was an ACCIDENT from what I can see and dont see anyone paying up. I know it feels crap and I would feel the same but reality has to bite sometime. G
imprezapete Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Well I'm not of this incline, as far as I can see it wasn't a race and his car didn't cause the accident. Im sorry but I dont agree that the Scooby driver should have to pay for his damage done to his car by ANOTHER drivers mistakes. Well I was considering doing a track day, but not now if this is how its run.
st3ph3n Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Don't let it put you off Pete. It sounds to me like a freak event on a rainy track. The SIDC event was fantastically well organised and manners on track were great all round. It was ideal conditions until right at the end when it rained a wee bit mind you.
imprezapete Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Im sorry but I wont take that chance. I have looked at Race insurance which is very costly and carrys a massive excess. Not worth the danger considering other drivers can total your car and get away with it.
johnnyr6 Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 The driving standards at the sidc days is higher than that rsoc day. Prob down to people on sidc days using their road cars and like yourself not wanting it damaged. There was a lot of pure track prepped cars at the rsoc day so they were prob pushing harder.
higgy Posted June 25, 2005 Posted June 25, 2005 When you go out on track you need to be prepared for anything and sh;i does happen out there. At the last SIDC track day a Ferari pulled out of pit lane and was not going verry quick and i just about ran up the arse of if . Now that would have been a fab axperiance (NOT). So go out have a fun time push hard or evan HARDER but dont leave your brain at home, it's ment to be a fun day Higgy P S sorry to the boy in the scoob i, i hope it doesnt break the bank.
