Big Daz Posted April 3, 2005 Posted April 3, 2005 Scoobylav & I have just bought a wee GTI for track & strip use. Anyone up here got one & can offer any gems of info for tuning / handling / braking upgrades ( or just any info on things to look for to prevent engine explosions)? Now just need a trailer/towing dolly and we are set for a summer of fun Daz
phil Posted April 3, 2005 Posted April 3, 2005 Pearson Photography Ours at Snetterton on Friday All standard we even drive it to the track Try that for a season then start the work IMHO
Big Daz Posted April 4, 2005 Author Posted April 4, 2005 Thanks Phil, Nice photos Ian, Its a distinct possibility, need wheels & tyres though. Daz
zeolite Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 forum did a strange thing so I will post this again. What have you got a 1.6 or 1.9? what bits are you looking for as i may be able to help?
zeolite Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 Try this guy for parts and advice. He is an old pal of mine so tell him I sent you. Roy
Snudge Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 Zeolite, how are you mate. It's Al from Scoobynet (you just about found me a 205 a while ago, but your mate decided not to sell) What parts can you get as I have one now?? Twin carb's, brancher and uprated cam/pulley should put you up to a good standard for track use in a 205 guys. We should start a 205 sub-section!! I am well into old school fun now. One of my mates has a few old Fiat Strada Abarths.....these things are mega fun!! Al. PS I also have a few spare engine parts including starter motors, a recon cylinder head and cam, valves/pistons, should have a 4 branch manifold spare etc etc.....any interest give me a shout.
zeolite Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 Hi Al. Sorry about that 205 non-sale. The guy told me it was for sale then changed his mind. As for tuning a 205 I say stick with the injection. Carbs give you other problems that cost money to fix and with a well set up injection system there is not going to be a lot of difference but better driveability. The standard cam is the best one too. The 205gtidrivers.com forum is the best one for info.
Big Daz Posted April 4, 2005 Author Posted April 4, 2005 Cheers Zeolite, Just sniffing about for a few bits & pieces atm Daz

john_robertson Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Ask away had a pretty quick 309 a few years ago, BTW stay away from 16V'ers IMO Theres a few little tricks etc still available at low cost if you want to konow. John.
corsa Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 I know somebody who has the following for sale: "For Sale Peugeot 205 Gti rally car rolling shell LHD fitted with full OMP bolt in roll cage (all paper work) all panels and glass front and rear bumpers and gti outer trim are all fitted. dash is fitted in car and so is steering rackThis car has most parts with it 5 speed gearbox new fuel tank 4 1.9 gti 15"wheels with tarmac tyres 1 ECU wiring loom and fuse box Headlights rear lights indicators etc spare injectors This car has had about £2000 spent up to now will accept offers around £1000 if a sensible offer is made i would be willing to let the seats and mounting brackets go with the car.
Big Daz Posted April 6, 2005 Author Posted April 6, 2005 was after a driveshaft, but got one Now just looking about for the usual filter/exhaust/uprated pads & stuff Anyone know if these towing dolly things are legal for towing & not just recovery? or are we better going for a trailer? ( know anyone selling one cheap, no matter how scruffy) Cheers Daz
zeolite Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Aha now there is the rub. Dollies are a grey area. It seems that they can be used for recovery (by people in the motor trade) but for moving cars. Although I have seen people using them at autocrosses. car trailers are hard to get a hold of although I have been toying with the idea of replacing my own one for a better one. but ££££s Daz/Ian I can't emphasise enough that you read the info on 205gtidrivers.com and the forum before you spend any money on new parts. most of the aftermarket stuff for gti's is crap! I would advise you to clean your afm and get it tuned and serviced. Get a 1.9 oil cooler and make sure the fan works. Check the rear beam is working properly and consider the best shocks you can afford. Brake pads I don't know about I am afraid.
YumYum Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Awright mate, whereabouts u gonna b racing? I wouldnt advise a dolly, dont think they are too safe, well all depending on how far you are transporting the pug? I have a trailer for my track car, tried using a dolly a few times but didnt like it :-( What engine is in the pug? Yumen
zeolite Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Yum Yum. I use mine to do the 55 car club autocross series around Perth. Might go to the borders to do some of their events.
Big Daz Posted April 7, 2005 Author Posted April 7, 2005 Starting with a few 1/4 miles & anything we are allowed to enter at Knockhill Autocross is a possibility too. Its a 1.6GTI with 1.9 conversion, dont pick it up till Saturday, so heres hoping its all Ok Daz
zeolite Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 1/4 miles Daz? I am sure you will get bored of that pretty quick. Pugs are for going round corners don't you know? In fact, Cars are for going round corners. I swear to you that once you have done a lap in the mud you will never ever consider a 1/4 mile again.
YumYum Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Hey bud, the easiest way for u to get power out that wee rocket is to put a mi16 in, then go for like a set of rwin 40's or 45's There is a hot hatch at knockhill on the 17the of this month, u should get up to that with it, the pugs handle like a dream round there, i'll b up to so hopefully see you there Yumen
Scoobylav Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Great response guys I think me and Big Daz have stumbled across a secret underground scene here As Daz said we pick up the Pug on Saturday (providing we have no more dramas) So hopefully as soon as we have fitted a new drivers side driveshaft we will be up and away. The idea is to have it road legal until end of this season but we will see how it goes Ian - We have registered on the 205gti forum already, and maybe the Pug will be getting muddy so you had better watch out . . . . . Just out of interest how much you wanting for the engine ? (Sorry Daz) Looking forward to having some fun Ian
zeolite Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 It is not a straightforward swap just to stick carbs on a Mi16 (45s BTW) The standard injection system is pretty good and good enough for the standard cams. Ian...we will talk In the middle of an engine swap myself. Feel free to get in touch whenever. Hot hatch days. Do you have a death wish? and as for that bloody music?
Big Daz Posted April 7, 2005 Author Posted April 7, 2005 Zeolite, Had a death wish for years Still here though so thought we better up the stakes a bit, lol Whats all this rear beam failure stuff What do we check to see if ours is Ok? Daz
Scoobylav Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Ian - feel free to pm me with an indication of price as money is not unlimited. Daz - I think we will be ready for the 17th don't u ?
YumYum Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Been told its a doddle to put 40's or 45's on a mi16, got some mates down at Free-Flow in bathgate that have done many nae bother Why would people have a death wish goin on Knockhill? I've been up for almost a year now & it has been fine, the marshalls are totally clamping down on the idiots that go onto the track now so not to worry, it is safe p.s c,mon guys get it ready for the 17th, should b a good day Yumen
