allan_thorne Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 should I get one fitted or not. do they really help with turbo lag. Whats the quietest one.
Carl Davey Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 Nope. Sound shlte, look shlte, standard one makes the noises with a filter, which itself is shlte.
allan_thorne Posted April 1, 2005 Author Posted April 1, 2005 thanks just wondered. don't think i.ll bother with one.
Carl Davey Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 Don't let me sway your opinion. There's loads of people love them. There's even some on here that love neons, flamer and popper kits. But ssshhhh, you didn't hear it from me ok?
drb5 Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 Good thing about an atmospheric is the pops and bangs. Get a whole load more of em!
the squiggle Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 Bad thing about atmospheric is the excess fuel which doesn't bang goes down the cylinder walls inti your sump. This makes the oil thin out and the bores wear prematurley due to the oil being washed off. Grant
Gee Wr1 Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 Say goodbye to the warranty if you fit it. Think if i remember you got car from Inverness same place as me & they HATE dumpvalves!
Gumball Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 Grant, i just bought an HKS sqv for the new STI last week before the MMO on Sunday. I went to Nobles in Penicuilk to ask about my shagged gearstick and they said.............."if you want to take my advice son...take the valve off". He reckoned it made the car run lean and wasnt worth the hassle for a swooshing noise! If you can give me advice, which i know will be correct then i may take it off and flog it
oobster Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 is it worthwhile just going for a panel filter then?
zeolite Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 My information is that they make the classics run lean. No performance advantage so why bother?
jacqui_robb Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 Baa Humbugs! BOV's sound cool as ****! I personally wouldnt have my babe without one! edited to say: they do have advantages for ur turbo
sma01 Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 I was going to ask the same question as to whether or not to get a dump valve fitted to my new car, but based on the responses dont think I will bother fitting one...... car currently has a PPP, with the prodrive downpipe being replaced in the next couple of weeks for a full decat,so after that, what mods should I be looking at next??
wilky Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 Atmospheric dumping if you have an AFR will lean u out because the car has metered the air u are dumping, if you have an aftermarket ecu this can be compensated for in the map. My car get away with it because I have possum link ecu and it doesnt use a AFR it works on manifold pressure. But recirculating is the way ahead until u can map to compensate. Johnny Knocksville has my set up on his car, watch the vid , listen to the noise. Callum W
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 I love mine SO much, it feels dull as dishwater without it.........have read all the bumph and unless you really neglect her you shouldn't have any probs from what i can gather. Like Callum says, if you're running higher power then your map will sort it..... I blame Jools and his Alford video for "grooming" me into buying one. They sound feckin AWESOME IMHO ! I have the TurboXS RFL for your info Cal
dougster Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 APS recirculating aftermarket DV like mine? Can you get this type to fit a new car? (97> my mind is a blur, come to thing of of....................so was <97!!!!!!!)
p3dro Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 But they are so much fun. yes I know, no increase in performance, just for the image, just for a whooshing noise blah blah blah. We have nice shiny 17's instead of 16's why? We colour code stuff why? Uprate the stereo why? The list is endless, new lights? I like my dumpvalve cos it sounds ace, its fun and adds to the overall driving experience just like the above. If you have a problem don't fit em but many people have them with no ill effects to their engines. just my 2 cents worth
Stiks Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 Alexanders in Falkirk make vehicles that make all that whooshing noise too.. everytime they stop and the doors open.
Thomohawk Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 LOL Keith!! For what it's worth I would recommed getting one too!! Did I mention I've got an HKS SSQV up for sale in the for sale section???? Sounds the dugs danglies too!! Catch yaes. Thomo.
Stiks Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 hey Thommo - hang on to it ..once yer in the new hoose and the carpets are down you'll be scouring the country for a scoob. BTW I like the sound of dump valves really... just that old bore wash thing would worry me ! Keith
Thomohawk Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Sorry Stiks, missed your reply. Fingers crossed I'll be looking for another scoob once everything is sorted, feel like I haven't had it that long! Later m8.
seafar99 Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Hey Stiks, i can verify them swishing doors in Alexanders buses, how? cause i fit them. craig.
paddy247 Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Ive got a d/v on my clasic and never had any problems, adds to the driver experience. can u guys elaborate on why you think it leans out and thins the oil. cheers
Gumball Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 surely the capped thingy thats on the intercooler as standard sends the built up pressure back into the turbo and i quicker to respond again? where as with the noise machine, the pressure gets thrown out into the atmosphere and when you open the throttle again you have to wait for it to come back? does that make sense. no idea about the running lean chinanigans though
paddy247 Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 with a d/v fitted apparently will help prolong the life of ur turbo as will a decat system. I cant understand how the dumpvale will make the car over fuel as posted by the squirrel555, excess fuel will not be able to run down the cylnder walls in to your sump past compresion rings and oil seals instead it will exit via the exhaust port and backfire in the exhaust system. And i also cant see how it will cause the car to run lean as posted by zeolite as a dump valve has nothing to do will the fuell system, plus there must be benefits of the slightly heated manifold pressure being dumped to atmopsphere, and a fresh intake being drawn, hope i have not offended anybody and im only trying to have a better understanding of this.
paddy247 Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 Come on guys, im looking for some interesting and tecnical response to this, any takers
