allan_thorne Posted March 28, 2005 Posted March 28, 2005 was thinking of upgrading my brakes should I just go with the Prodrive from the dealer or get Brembo maybe AP Racing. What about Tarox. I have 18" wheels on will they be ok with big brakes. Can you buy matching brakes for the back so I can keep the look the same obvioulsy they will not be big brakes like the front. will this affect my warranity.
gordon_kerr Posted March 28, 2005 Posted March 28, 2005 You won the lottery scottie? Your on a right old spending spree just now lol
allan_thorne Posted March 28, 2005 Author Posted March 28, 2005 << You won the lottery scottie? Your on a right old spending spree just now lol >> yip. decided spend on the new car instead off taking any holiday this year plus just got my bonus from work
sma01 Posted March 28, 2005 Posted March 28, 2005 one of my mates has the prodrive brakes on his P1, they seem really good.... got brembos on my car and they stop the car superbly well, will probably upgrade the discs and pads though, had DBA gold discs before on my last car and they were excellent...
coulty Posted March 28, 2005 Posted March 28, 2005 No no no.....You need to be looking at blowing a nice wad of cash on a set of 330mm 6 pot AP Racing brakes....the total business for scoobs. Don't forget the braided brakes lines, the DOT 5.1 fluid or the Ferodo DS2500 pads Stuart
craigdmcd Posted March 28, 2005 Posted March 28, 2005 I'm with Scotty on this question, obviously the AP 6 pot set up is the mutt's nuts, so it should be for £1500 + vat, but what about warranty, etc, is the Prodrive setup a good one?, do either have any problem's with warped discs or noises (chattering or squealing)? And what about the StopTech brakes, slightly overpriced here, but the wife is an airstewardess, and can bring them in from California for around £1000. How do we turn this in to a poll? Oh, and why bother on a 04 PPP WRX, well as my mate who fixes the late Alan Barr's Group A Impreza said, pound for pound, your cheaper to make your brakes better than to make your engine faster by the same amount on lap times. Craig
coulty Posted March 28, 2005 Posted March 28, 2005 I would agree about the stoptech. My mate has an M3 Evo and has their 355mm 4 pot setup and they have some stopping power.....however they are unproven on the scoobs and therefore if you are after the best money can buy they AP it has to be.
craigdmcd Posted March 28, 2005 Posted March 28, 2005 Where the feck were you? ( I was looking at houses) As for the brakes, any idea on the warranty issue, also I think that stoptech have more than proven themselves in the states in Imps. Talked to them, as Devlin will testify, at the Autosport Show, and were VERY knowlegable, but, yes, I agree that the 6 pots look supremely impressive.
DEVLIN Posted March 28, 2005 Posted March 28, 2005 Craig , a few of us had a wee leisurely drive round the galloway hills , dont miss the next one mate !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Craig , was I at the Autosport show ??? I cant remember ??? had a wee tipple that weekend ??? auch well never mind
allan_thorne Posted March 28, 2005 Author Posted March 28, 2005 leaning towards the prodrive just to keep everything the same. but if I buy prodrive then I will have silver calipers on front with prodrive on them and red subaru calipers on the rear. is there any calipers that I can put on the rear. Although If I buy AP then they can be red but got AP on my mini and was looking for something different got Brembo on our V10 Touareg. Has anybody got Galfer brakes saw them @ Leda when I was down earlier in the year and they swear buy them.
drb5 Posted March 28, 2005 Posted March 28, 2005 You WON'T buy better than the AP's, but they don't always come in red. I had them in black with yellow writing on it. Wish i had actually bought them over the Brembo's....they just are no way as good as AP.
Gee Wr1 Posted March 29, 2005 Posted March 29, 2005 If i had the money i wouldn't hesitate to fit a set of AP's behind my wheels
Highlander68000 Posted March 29, 2005 Posted March 29, 2005 << Has anybody got Galfer brakes saw them @ Leda when I was down earlier in the year and they swear buy them. >> You would swear by them if you were one of the UK main dealers for them
dave_morgan Posted March 29, 2005 Posted March 29, 2005 If you've got the money, don't do it half-heartedly - go for the AP's. You can't bet better in my opinion. Shouldn't affect the warranty but you could always call your dealer to double check. Dave
allan_thorne Posted March 30, 2005 Author Posted March 30, 2005 Ok AP it is then. Can any suggest what company to use for supply and fitting. Central Scotland area.
