allan_thorne Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 sorry but another question. Getting the Prodrive stuff fitted by the dealer on Monday. However what gains will I get by fitting another induction kit and which is the best one to get. Will this be frowned upon re my warranity. (not to bothered) Also who is best to go to get this done do the likes of AWD @ Perth do this stuff. See the thing is I like all this stuff but never having had a scooby before not sure about what product to get and who to get it from.
Carl Davey Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 Induction kits are more hassle than they're worth on a lightly tuned car. You could slip a more free flowing panel filter in the OE airbox if the PPP doesn't come with one. They're much cheaper and will be of more benefit than a cone. If you have to get a cone i can recommend a K&N. I had to shield mine from the engine bay (hot air) to restore the airflow of my car to normal levels though.
john_robertson Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 Induction kit = Warranty straight out of the window, afraid. As for gains, arguable, provided it gets loads of cold air feed it should pick up something, don't know if it affects the newer cars so much but some of the classic shape cars really hated induction kits and had a bad habit of chucking their MAF sensors due to the oil from the filter coating the wire and burning it out. Loads of people stock them - AWD H1Performance DASTEK Star performance Falkland etc etc etc Really depends on how far you want to travel and who you want to supply and fit it for you. John.
TypeRA28 Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 I've got an HKS induction kit, and it is great. Lots of folks advise not to get it, as it can damage the MAF sensor, but so far so good for me. It gives off a great whirring sucking noise, which just adds to the other great noises produced by the car. My advice is, if you want one, get one.
fraser_drinkwater Posted March 20, 2005 Posted March 20, 2005 Yip i got the hks from awd and it is necessary for the new models with regards to the maf sensor as it has the socket from which the plug goes into thus it runs well, its the induction kit that don't have this ,is when they run like a bag of bolts. so my advice is get to AWD.
Carl Davey Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 To the best of my knowledge the MAF problem was largely limited to the MY99/00 cars. The Fugly has a tougher version AFAIK. TypeRA28, to the best of my knowledge MY98 MAF's are pretty resilient also. Funny, my K&N makes my car sound like an RS Turbo. Daft sucking noises and being able to hear the dump valve re-circ through it doesn't turn me on. If it didn't actually benefit the car it'd have been binned a long time ago...
john_robertson Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 Carl, you could be right about the newer cars running a tougher MAF, I've seen a lot of demo cars in the mags running cone filter kits. If the Pro tuners are using them there must be some advantage. Personnally though the only way you can exploit that free'er flow advantage is if the air getting to the cone is cool enough, no point in sucking in loads of hot air. John.
andy_robertson Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 << my las WRX had a k&n panel filter in it and it gave me an extra 10 bhp >> never knew you could much power from just a panel filter?? how much are they?
fraser_drinkwater Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 If your going for the panel filter get GREEN unsure of the price but ensure you dont get the oil soaked ones, as this plays havoc with the air sensor. Top tip straight out of last months Jap performance scooby pull out.
andy_robertson Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 wheres the best place to get them on th internet?
