the squiggle Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 Went up to Auchterarder with Andy to get his Knocklink and Defi's fitted. Top job done by Jamie and a cracking cuppa coffee mate. On the way home found out why the defi cotrol unit beeps with the ign on and the engine not running, the Oil Pressure warning buzzer was beeping as the engine is not turning and it was not seeing any pressure, nothing to worry about. Just stared at the guages all the way home and the resulting boost pressure was a sight to see for a std car and the KL was relatively quiet apart from a bad early start due to fuel surge . We set up the warning buzzers on when we got to Andy's house to "beep" when excessive boost is seen and if the oil temp goes to high. An awesome bit of kit , professionally fitted by a top bloke in a prim and proper manner, and as i said in the title Thumbs up for H1PERFORMANCE, best of luck for the future Grant Grant
ANDYJDMSTI Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 Well i must say i am chuffed to bits with my new toys Jamie, you are a top bloke and i cant thank you enough for the work today, pleasure watching you work, just wish i had that skill. the trip home was great, me and Grant just drooled over the guages . we were both abit surprised when the boost peaked at 1.6 bar . not bad for a standard car!!!!! took some pics tonite but they are abit blurred so will do some more tomorrow along with the new splitter and get them up. thanks again Jamie
jamie_wood Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 Cheers Grant. Was a pleasure Andy. Will let you know when the website is up and running so you can all make your comments, good or bad. Whats the peak boost out of the "beast"??
jamie_wood Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 Wow, just seen the post!! 1.6???? thats not right I dont think???? Need to double check that one out................
ANDYJDMSTI Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 is correct mate. checked it on replay Me and Grant couldnt believe it either, but the defis dont lie!!!!!!
jamie_wood Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 Suppose so, when you work it out its only around the 22 psi mark. Still a heft figure though. Need to crank mine up another .1 or .2 and see what happens
RS Grant Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 Can I ask how much it would be to get a set of Oil Temp/Oil Pressure/Boost Pressure gauges fitted to a Classic?? Have got family in Auchterarder so I might be able to "organise" a visit....... and while I was there, I could get the gauges fitted!! Cheers, Grant
ANDYJDMSTI Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 << Suppose so, when you work it out its only around the 22 psi mark. Still a heft figure though. Need to crank mine up another .1 or .2 and see what happens >> yeah is a hefty figure, think Grant says the standard wrx is about 0.9 mark. get your cranked up, as you say if it goes pop................f**k it!!!!! looks like more business coming your way. word is out on the street
jamie_wood Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 Yep, I'm just about to mail the guys at SIDC and get my advertising spot sorted out. I dont like taking advantage of the publicity without paying for it. Dont want to get chucked out
the squiggle Posted December 5, 2004 Author Posted December 5, 2004 Thought the boost was a bit high myself for a std Jap car but it would concur with the remap it got when it arrived on these shores. Andy was told that it had been remapped for UK fuel but he was not 100% sure without the use the use of a boost guage or a Knock link. Now these two items are fitted the results, apart from the early fuel surge which gave a brief big red flash, are pretty stunning for a std car. Next stop is the rolling road as Dastek to see what power it gives and to check the Air to Fuel Ratio is solid throughout the rev range. A couple of the jap website i have found say that the std boost for the latest generation JDM STI is 19 psi at 3600 rpm so depending on who mapped the car 22 psi is not an unrealistic level of boost. The general activity on the KL would suggest all is well in the MAP dept The big chap has just got to check the AFR to make sure enough fuel is getting delivered Grant
jamie_wood Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 Canny beat having an AFR meter in the car AND the knocklink. Its peace of mind then.
ANDYJDMSTI Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 Grant, had another wee flash into the red earlier on when u had left. will have to give it another wee test the morra
jamie_wood Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 Tread softly there Matey Big boost and red lights!!
ANDYJDMSTI Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 << Tread softly there Matey Big boost and red lights!! >> no worries!!!! am treading feather lightly. will check nut the morra just to make sure it is still tight. it has only happened very briefly twice will see Grant and see what he reckons.
jamie_wood Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 Nah....bolt will be ok. Wouldn't bother with it. If it was that bad, the factory sensor would have picked up on it anyway.
paulc555 Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 Jamie Following a lengthy debate with Grant at the last central meet I will be looking a knocklink fitted to the sti3 after christmas...are u up for doing this... as Grant said it would be a shame to pop such a nice shiny engine.... so running with optimax and millers at the minute... will you pm me with a price... hope the new venture goes okay..... cheers Paul
the squiggle Posted December 5, 2004 Author Posted December 5, 2004 And how lengthy was this debate? You know it makes sense ..................... Grant
paulc555 Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 well actually it wasnt really a debate...its more i case of I know bu**er all and you obviously do...never one to argue with a man of knowledge me.... so if you ever need advice on adhesives or body shop preping then I'm your man..alright... oh aye..whats the other air thingy that I was supposed to get as well...see told you " my knowledge is strictly aahhh cr@p... how did the trip to the rally go......?????????????????????????
the squiggle Posted December 5, 2004 Author Posted December 5, 2004 That would be an Air to Fuel Ratio meter to tell you that the engine is seeing enough fuel when at high boost Grant
Hepy Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 I've had Defi BFs and a knocklink lying under my bed for months now but never got round to fitting them. How far is Auchterarder from Glasgow as I fancy getting them fitted.
