Thomohawk Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 Morning all! Well, had my first close call in the Scoob this morning heading into work. Not sure how many of you know the stretch of road, but heading down from the last slip on the A90 before the tolls towards the Tesco roundabout in South Queensferry..... next to the Shell Station.... ... well tootling down the hill at around 30mph (car was still cold ) in the outside lane when I get along side a suzuki jeep thing (just at the entrance to the Shell Garage) when he decides to change lane!! Thankfully there is a break in the central reserve at this point to allow access to the garage - I managed to swerve into the right-turn lane for the garage and avoid my first bump. Just aswell none of you guys were heading for your daily (or is that just me) top up of Optimax or it could have been nasty!! Funny thing was the guy totally $h@t himself once he realised what he'd done, stopped in the middle of the road (holding everyone else up) to appologise to me..... bl**dy maniac looked about 90 yrs old!!! Anyway, just a reminder that no matter how good a driver we all think we are, you just can't trust some of the other mentalists on the road!! Cheers, Thomo.
colinj Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 Yep, always got to be on the lookout for other people on the road - my old MR2 seemed to be a prime target 6 people running into me in 2 yrs of ownership including rear ended at some lights 6 days after buying it and again 2 days after getting it back from the bodyshop - jinxed! Scoobys been fine so far
ANDYJDMSTI Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 Think when u reach 55 you should have to go and take an assessment drive with an instructor. i have had some close calls too and they all seem to be with elder drivers with no road awareness

Funny Story: Was driving through Edinburgh a while back and ended up behind a ford Ka.... which had a set of car keys hanging out the boot lock. Yep, it was an elderly woman driving.. you know the ones that insist on shoe-horning themsleves between the uprght seat and the wheel!! Anyway, couldn't help but imagine the situation at home when she must have been looking for her car keys and then decided just to take the spare!!!!

Thomohawk Posted November 12, 2004 Author Posted November 12, 2004 Alright John, Not had the car seen to yet, but was on the blower getting it booked in this morning - it goes in next Thursday and they're keeping it while I'm away on hols....... and yes I'll be making note of the mileage!!
