An Easter Trip to the Ring

Chaps and Chapettes,

As stated above, anyone interested in a wee boat trip from Rosyth, a further squirt through Holland and blatting up an Autobahn to the Ring for a couple of days, then turning around and coming back again??

Dates are likely to be the 24th March for outward jouney. Return date still to be decided.

Serious interest only please. I may also be looking for a co-pilot.

I know this should probably go in general, but seeing as we would be starting from Scotland I posted here.

Looked at this earlier in the year (but the scooby blew up)

Think there is a good price on the tickets if you stay oversea for three nights??

Mate of mine has been over a few weeks ago and said it was brill.

Got a bit costly when the Ferrari hit the barriers and had to cough up the 2K before leaving the track( to pay for the track repairs!!)

Good luck with this anyway John.

If I have the £££ and the time when it comes round then I might give you a shout.

Just now...I aint gonna even pretend, its too far away to say.

No worries Jamie. It would be good to get a few folk along for the banter and beers. Must admit I'm cacking myself, but really looking forward to it face-icon-small-happy.gif

Depart Thursday night, arrive friday morning.

Drive up to the "Ring" and stay the night.(Knees up)

Saturday, Playtime on the Ring, Knees up on the sat night

Leisurly drive back towards the ferry, taking in the scenery on the way(LOL) on the sunday.

Sunday night sail home to bonnie scotland.

Arrive back on Monday morning

That was my plan at the time.

Staying the two nights is the best offer I saw and if you do the trip before the 26th?? of March (I think) its a lot cheaper.

I fully intend to visit the tulip fields face-icon-small-wink.gifface-icon-small-happy.gif

Your itinerary looks pretty much what I had in mind, although I think I'll bash the Ring for two days. face-icon-small-cool.gif Depending on weather and punishment the car will take. Probably on track for half day then spectate at various parts the rest and do the same the next day.

I'm also looking at a trip to Spa. Just need to convince the Wife it will be good for us to be apart a bit more this year. Although once I mention a jaunt over the Stelvio in September it may be apart for a long while face-icon-small-shocked.gif

I'm definetly at the canny wait stage !!

With Junior coming along soon don't think I could push a fourth face-icon-small-blush.gif

A couple of good research items for you are the Duke DVD of the Nissan Skyline has a full lap at race speed of the "old" track and if you fancy driving it to learn the corners Project Gotham Racing 2 on the Xbox has it as pretty accurate representation of the "old" track, hell you can even use an EVO 8 in black though i dont know if it can accurately represent the size of the guy in the drivers seat. You would need a descent set of wheel and pedels to get the full benefit but it would help in knowing whats around those corners at 140mph

Ferry costs will be in the region of £400 return for the car and two folk sharing a two berth cabin. I think there is a cheaper cabin and also the aircraft style seats, but at 17.5hrs out of Rosyth, I'd be looking at a few good beers on board and a bed to crash in. I dare say there will be deals for booking up in advance as well, although I have not called them yet. (You cannot book this ferry on-line face-icon-small-sad.gif )

Hi,

I'd be interested in this. How much extra is it to take a trailer? Do cars have to be insured etc to take on 'the ring'?

Cheers,

Don't know about a trailer. Probably classed the same as caravan.

Strictly speaking the old nurburgring is not classed as a track. It is a public one way road without a speed limit, which is policed by the German rozzers. If you cause a crash, it will be subject to a police investigation as if it were on the open road. So not sure if track insurance applies. I know some are sticky about the ring and the AA have a clause in their European breakdown, that if you are at/ near the Nordschleife then you are not covered by International Rescue (cue thunderbirds music)

Would love that routing mate, but the ferry only goes between Rosyth and Zeebrugge, although a wee detour on the way home for a lads night out would be good face-icon-small-happy.gif

Hmmm.....someone called skunk looking to go to Amsterdam....face-icon-small-happy.gif

Amsterdam is about 2 hours away from Zeebrugge. If i was doing it i'd probs want to find secure parking in Zeebrugge and get the train up as it is quicker and easier to pilot with a hangover face-icon-small-tongue.gifface-icon-small-confused.gif
