Jimmy Mc Posted May 1, 2004 Posted May 1, 2004 Anyone know why there were police on the mountain mile today? 1 copper in a 4x4 with a speed gun and a biker on a 1300 Pan waiting alongside. Any ideas?
Cret Posted May 1, 2004 Posted May 1, 2004 Maybe they're trying to record a tt speed record for all the Quadrophenia scooter brigade that are over!
Boxer23 Posted May 1, 2004 Posted May 1, 2004 Yep, I saw them today and hit the anchors just to be on the safe side. Three marked vehicles, including the Maverick, and the hand-held hairdryer speed gun.
dooahhdoo Posted May 2, 2004 Posted May 2, 2004 More than likely research on the new speed limit they are going to introduce. Apparently, the speed limit will be what 85% of motorists travel at already. Wish we would have known, would have thrown their stats out by a mile having a dozen scoobs go past at 140 Incidentally, I am thinking of setting up a web site to collect names and addresses of people who object to the introduction of an all island speed limit and present it to my Tynwald rep. Too long now has Bruce Hannay brought in stupid roundabouts, speed bumps, traffic lights in daft places and need I say more about the roundabouts at the bus station??? What do you think?
RIO Posted May 2, 2004 Posted May 2, 2004 IM WITH YOU 100% ALL THE WAY DUDE, ROUNDABOUTS JUST DECREASE THE AMOUNT OF ACCELERATION SPACE - AND AS FOR 60MPH EVERYWHERE... B*LL*CKS!!!!!!!
aircrest Posted May 2, 2004 Posted May 2, 2004 IMHO the more ground we can cover now B4 the event the better, ..........A "national" speed limit would kill the island, stop it in its tracks............it is a major player in the tourisim stakes ...... Behind you all the way Nick......... Cheers
heazille Posted May 3, 2004 Posted May 3, 2004 Crack on Nick right behind ya. will have petition sheets readt for TT Ta Ta Richard
RB5_IOM Posted May 4, 2004 Posted May 4, 2004 4 x4, mondeo and a bike sitting at the creg on Monday, seem to be coming out in numbers!!
WRX IOM Posted May 4, 2004 Posted May 4, 2004 Tourism would be killed on the island along with everyones Licenses!!! TT figures would be down as most of them come over to experience the TT track with it's deristricted limits. I am all for a petition if it will do anything but i think they have already made there minds up. Especially if most of them listen to Manx Radio!!! and drive over the mountain at 30mph on a clear sunny day!!! These people should be band from going over the mountain!!!
heazille Posted May 4, 2004 Posted May 4, 2004 Manx Radio, who are they!! Ah, i know you mean THE MOANIN LINE Ta Ta Richard
robert_harding Posted May 6, 2004 Posted May 6, 2004 im up for a petition will screw up tourism i wont go back again i'll tell ya that. bunch "o" W*&*ers.
dooahhdoo Posted May 7, 2004 Posted May 7, 2004 More directed at me actually Richard. Started the web site the other night, could not get any inspiration for the correct words so have left it. OK then, we have some smart guys on here. Anybody fancy giving me some text for a site? I will register the domain www.nolimit.org.im and host it at work so no prob there. I already have the scripts and stuff to take email addresses and names so that is not a problem. Just need a layout for the page. Answers on a postcard (seriously, sorry it is very important I should have done this but most of you know my circumstances!)
paul n Posted May 7, 2004 Posted May 7, 2004 Hi All, Not sure if there is anything us mainlanders can do, but if you can think of anything please let me know. Would be a crying shame if a limit was approved & as you say won't help the tourist trade on the Island. See you all in July Paul
heazille Posted May 7, 2004 Posted May 7, 2004 Hi Paul, We are currently looking at various things, but firstly a petition of some sort will be sorted out then perhaps some way of registering on line will keep ya all posted
scooby g Posted May 10, 2004 Posted May 10, 2004 I only just noticed this thread. Who the hell is behind this idea. I know i am from the big island, but as far as i can see, it will loose the island loads in tourism. How much is cash is generated by the tt each year. It doesnt make sence for you to cut your own throats Its only last year that Top Gear were over. That publicity would never have come your way with speed limits in force. Someone needs shooting See you in july. Greg
dooahhdoo Posted May 11, 2004 Posted May 11, 2004 Greg, I totally agree and have started the ball rolling today (after a big push from our very own Boxer23 ). Just waiting for the confirmation of the domain name and then our web designer (nice one Frankie!) will start on a page to register. We will have publicity provided by Isle of Man newspapers, Manx Radio. I will make sure we get as much web coverage as possible by posting on local forums for support if they so wish to give it, motorcycle forums etc. This will be huge I hope Will keep you posted
Boxer23 Posted May 11, 2004 Posted May 11, 2004 Yes, this is definately a topic which needs full public support. Unfortuantely too many people in the Isle of Man grumble and moan but take very little positive action. I think the online petition is a great idea and will certainly make Tynwald aware of public disquiet. Great idea Nick and a big thank you to Frankie for helping out.
heazille Posted May 11, 2004 Posted May 11, 2004 I will be having one on my counter right through TT fortnight as well
