corsa Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Jef, Shell stations are not dissapearing they are the only Oil company in the UK on a major spend initiative the now. They have just bought over Total in the UK buying 1000 sites, sold off 500 of them to private dealers and are refurbishing the rest and rebranding them as Shell sites to the new format. They are also NOT doing away with V-power, they might be coming in with a change option on Fuel save as it didnt say what it did on the tin so to speak ;-) As for Knockers i havnt a clue. Davie
neill54 Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 I only just noticed that the polbeth shell has changed to a bp! Don't know what that's about! They wre always way over priced compared to howden a lizzie Brice anyway! Neil

jamesm Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Shell have been on a heavy investment programme recently and have done a lot of work to their forecourts. I was told at Christmas, by someone who is involved with the forecourt upgrade south of the border, that Shell are looking to off load a number of Scottish sites and any forecourt which has yet to be upgraded and is not in the programme for early this year will be off loaded to other operators. Tesco 99 is a close second to Vpower. It is the same stuff, just the additives and detergents that are different. Phil1967 on here will tell you all about it. He delivers the stuff.
corsa Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 James, your contacts giving you a bum steer on the info. Who was the contacts on the forecourt programme ? Davie
jamesm Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 James, your contacts giving you a bum steer on the info. Who was the contacts on the forecourt programme ? Davie Works for some consultant or other that do the ground and contamination reports, particularly where you are re-tanking a site. Had said the Scottish work was winding down and Shell were looking to off load the last of the un-refurbished sites up here to other operators. Must have been on too much Christmas wine! I stand corrected. Are there many still to be done? Only ones I can think of are some through Renfrewshire which were still to be done last time I was in.
corsa Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Jef, i assume he works for URS ? If so who is it as he talking through a hole in his arse ( or pished ). I am heavily involved in the programme as a principal contracor on the programme for this and next year so know a wee bit about what Shell are doing Davie
fai17 Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Jef. You get free tuition on a Sidc track day at knockhill mate. Do you stay in Renfrewshire?
jamesm Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Nah, wasn't URS. Dunno, probably a case of Chinese whispers and too much Christmas partying! Friend of a friend who is clearly not a reliable one! Could even have meant a different supplier for all I know. We were talking about BP petrol beforehand as I remember he thought BP Ultimate was better than VPower. Good to hear there will be no reduction in Shell stations anyway.
jef Posted January 18, 2012 Author Posted January 18, 2012 Jef. You get free tuition on a Sidc track day at knockhill mate. Do you stay in Renfrewshire? i was born an bred in renfrewshire but no longer thats good to known thugh mate how do i go around sorting the free tuition?
fai17 Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 i was born an bred in renfrewshire but no longer thats good to known thugh mate how do i go around sorting the free tuition? All you need to do is ask the instructor to go out with you during the course of the track day.
jamesm Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Was speaking to my mate tonight and asked him if he remembered the conversation. His mate Alan who was up here at Christmas is a Contaminated Land Consultant down south and previously worked on a contract relating to forecourt refurbishment where he dealt with reports on the tanks. That was what he was talking about. Turns out however he hasn’t done that for about 2 years since changing employer. Currently he is happily drilling boreholes in the gardens of folks new build houses just outside London where the contamination wasn’t dealt with properly. He is not working on anything relating to petrol stations now so your assessment above was right Davie – he was talking pish!
