marko72
Pulled on to the hard shoulder y'day bout 6pm just before Glasgow airport M8 after I noticed smoke? coming out the back of the car. Once stopped plenty smoke/steam coming from the front and sides of bonnet. Put the gf and woof up the grass and noticed rusty coloured fluid coming out from front of car, see pics. Lifted the bonnet and plenty of browny fluid over the front of the engine bay as can be seen. Chap came out and had a look and said it was water and antifreeze, then took us and the car home. So anyone any ideas what might have happened and how bad it may be? I really wouldnt know tbh. Mind you, I did spot about 5 scoobs going both ways over the hour we were freezing our butts off waiting on the man. Anyone? Edited October 18, 2009 by marko72 Link to comment
Big 'D'
Looks like either a hose or the rad itself may have split/come undone but the only way to be sure would be to trace the leak to its source. Cheers Iain Link to comment
marko72
Leak traced to top hose. New one on tomorrow so fingers crossed it will be all good. Cheers ! Link to comment
cullenmin
Least its not the radiator mate. Coolant looks a bit murky, in need of a change Link to comment
colin_ross
Glad it was an easy fix. Was the hose perished? Link to comment

marko72
Cheers guys. Top hose, the one in the pic, had worn and eventually a hole had appeared. Did look as though it had rubbed on something? New one on and it doesnt touch anything as I would expect but will keep an eye on it. Did leave the garage and after about a mile and a half experienced same steam? coming out the front . Phoned the garage and they drove straight up to see me, which was good of them, and they said it was prob water in the undertray etc ( I had just driven up a hill ). I let it cool then they followed me back to my home in case it happened again. A tiny bit of steam this time then fine, so hope its okay now. New coolant in tomorrow Link to comment
cullenmin
It should be fien tomorrow, you'll always get steam for a bit after spraying the coolant everywhere. All burns off eventually Link to comment
