mystery machine
Is a replacement filter included in the 20K service? Looks like you've had a family of sparrows living up there. Link to comment

mystery machine
If it is included, then someones going to need some answers.Exactly what I was thinking. And on those services where a replacement filter isn't mandated, aren't they supposed to inspect it? Always been a bit sceptical about how much heed is paid to the 'items for inspection' on the service schedule. Of course, maybe they did inspect it: "Aye Wullie, looks aboot right - jist the usual twigs an' grass an' that..." "Nae bother - pap it back in." Link to comment

I did another small mod today, I removed the Ian Grieve sticker from the back window. Link to comment

C_WRX
Air Filter - tut tut, appears someone hasn't looked at that at the 20k service ! Engine bay dress up - liking the noted bits, more to follow ? Carbon fibres always nice addition...but expensive ! Been changing a few pipes myself lately but money keeps needin to go to other places so not quite got it to the level I am aiming for. Link to comment
StewartyBoy
UHOH! Yeah someone hasnt bothered their hole checking that, probably because it aint on the list of things to change. Not really what you would call "taking the initiative" Link to comment
scoobyseller555
this is not part of the 20k service nor is it on the Subaru checklist for the 20k service, removing the 'Ian Grieve' sticker!!!!Mmm. Dont know what result that will give Barry. Gav from Ian Grieve Edited October 5, 2009 by scoobyseller555 Link to comment
StewartyBoy
Not one for rocking the boat, but surely something like an air filter should be checked Gav. Going from the motor trade into the agricultural trade, as a mechanic I know its just common sense if not from an "upselling" point of view that a quick check around the car in "consumable" areas like air filter, belts etc should be given a quick going over as standard practice. I know Grieves do good work, from the way members post about the garage. I suppose you can only put this down to a one-off. Link to comment
scoobyseller555
I think one of the main problems with these new hatches is that you have to remove a fair amount under the bonnet to open the airbox to see the filter as its sits upright in the box now(not an excuse)obviously there are no times charged within the 20k service for this to be done,i will investigate tomorrow as i can remember who serviced Barrys car and this surprises me greatly. corsa
This sort of stuff really gets on my goat, not just Gav but in general, why post stuff like this aginst dealers and not just have a face to face talk rather than over the net. Not my way of working but i must just be old fashioned. Davie. Link to comment
StewartyBoy
I reckon as a forum if someone has had a bad experience then members feel they should vent it, so that the issue can be avoided in future. Even if you just need to politely ask at service if the mechanic can give the car a quick lookover. No badmouthing has really gone on mate, it does show up the tech that worked on the car a bit but we all know that Grieves is a good garage and this issue alone is definately not strong enough to avoid the place. Absolutely - it's one of the great strengths of a forum like this and of the internet in general. And of course the dealer has an opportunity to tell their side of the story too. It's then left up to the readership to decide what they want to make of it. Link to comment
scoobyseller555
Subaru hat off. I agree totally that an open forum is for discussing experiences good and bad, but,i would also go back to the people concerned and speak with someone in charge and give them the option of giving some answers rather than 'sticker removal' or ' i'm not mentioning who it is' ,i have had 13 imprezas over the years, had some poor experiences myself but never not had the bottle to go back to the dealership to air my views and have always found that mostly it has been to my advantage to do so.In fairness i also now work on the opposite side and realise that there is always 2 sides to a story. So i suppose i agree with Davie, have a face to face with the people in question,i have always found it works best. Subaru hat back on. Gav Edited October 5, 2009 by scoobyseller555 Link to comment
FK1
i would be more concerned with ma mods shown in pics. from a warranty point. why not speak to the garage and give them a chance to answer what has happend. BRY Link to comment
BJM
Let me put this straight. I have no complaint about the service I have recieved. I am however very surprised that, given the state of my filter, that it is not on the 'replace' list on a 20thou service. I would have been driving with this airfilter for another 8thou miles if I have not checked it personally. As the title states, check your air filter. You check your oil, water and other fluids. Given, in my opinion, that most folk who buy these cars tend to look after them, I thought id point out a possible flaw in the servicing schedule. Link to comment
