sparky240 Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Hi Haven't posted here in ages, but I know you guys n gals to be ever helpful and from the same neck of the woods as me so hope to get some suggestions on this one. I got my RB320 back in December 08 and it has some swirls on the paint work. I've washed the car loads and got it nice and gleaming but haven't polished it cause I've been researching into the best products to use etc I've always used jet wash, sponge and bucket on all previous cars without problem, but now I'm reading everywhere that the sponge and leather method could be the culprit I'm looking to get the car polished up professionally and been looking into mopping and detailing - contacted one company that do 2 stages of detailing only to be told that this wont get rid of the swirls?!?!? Can anyone suggest anywhere I can get a good job done - I live in Orpington. Cheers Les

mikkers Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 I seem to remember there is a place near Lepsoms in Gillingham that does detailing. Best to get a recommendation first, but it's probably going to be fairly pricey from a professional company. Make sure they can get rid of the swirls before using them, an RB320 is one seriously nice car and it's a shame to think of one that is in less than perfect condition. Could well be the sponge that caused them, get yourself a lambswool mitt.

col_2 Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 i think the best man to talk too is dazzler, he dont come on here, but you can find him on www.kentscoobies.co.uk
mean greenie Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 put a post in the car care secton mate, alot of serious detailers go on there. from what i have read, if the marks aren't to deep, can't feel it with your finger nail, should be able to machine polish out. they know best in the other section, will be able to tell you what is required.
Jamessti Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 (edited) You could do it yourself, check here on how to, don't forget to go to their website. Edited July 20, 2009 by Jamessti
sparky240 Posted July 20, 2009 Author Posted July 20, 2009 Cheers for the help guys, been looking at all the advice that you've linked me to and I think I know where I'm going... First stop, buy the decent materials Second stop, hope and pray for a decent weather day preferably when I'm NOT working But could someone let me know of any local firms that do the detailing professionally incase the missus has a go at this when I'm not looking
mikkers Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 If you are going to use a machine polisher have a go at a scrap piece of painted metal first, if you dont have experience. I personally think a professional with insurance incase anything goes wrong is the way to go, especially on an RB320. They can do a paint depth reading and let you know if all the swirls will come out before going to an unacceptable depth. Subaru paint aint the thickest. By all means have a go by hand, but as soon as you need to plug something in seek help if needed. Check out dazzlers thread on kentscoobies.co.uk on the detailing part of the forums. This is the level of attention you should be aiming for.
notsosmall Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Have a look here to see if any are local to you You can also check out some of there work in the studio, before you commit Hope it helps http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=59863
20withascooby Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 scoobytibs had a lovely quote at that place near lepsons he was very impressed im sure he will agree lol
scoobytibs Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 the place opposite lepsons is the best place around but he wants £500 to detail the car and has the car for a week ,he only does bentleys lambos and cars like that normally but it is very impressive there will not be a swirl mark left and that lasts about 6 months
sparky240 Posted August 10, 2009 Author Posted August 10, 2009 Thanks for all your help and advice guys, don't want you thinking I've been ungrateful by not replying. I am still very interested in getting the car detailed and have had a few quotes, but unfortunately its £500 I don't have at the moment. Going to have a good go at DIY'ing by hand (not using a machine polisher) and will have to work some overtime to get the extra money in to get it done professionally IF the DIY doesn't do it.
