spot2 Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 Good afternoon one and all, I recently had new brakes fitted to the Scoob. I was moderately concerned about clearance (on full lock I could hear a slight scraping noise). It turned out to be the caliper lightly 'kissing' a wheel balancing weight - clearance really is that minimal!! However, I digress................... After removing the wheel I had a fiddle (technical term) and noticed a fair amount of lateral movement of the bell and disc. Is this normal? Any and all replies gladly welcomed Cheers Graham P.S. I didn't fit these myself, they were fitted by a mechanic friend (who subsequently has gone on holibags so is uncontactable)
ciaranrb5 Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 I would say you should have movement in your disks/bell are you sure it is not the whole shock etc moving as I would say the disks having any movement is a worry
StrikE Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 Did you move the disc and bell with the wheel removed, if so did you refit the wheel nuts to lock the disc back down m8? If not then it will move a bit when the wheel is rremoved as the wheel nuts force it onto the hub whilst driving.
colin_ross Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 As mentioned above when you do up the wheel studs it will clamp the wheel onto the bells and will stop any movement. When you are shimming up the calipers make sure you put on a couple of wheel nuts (with washers to protect the bells) to hold the bell in place and then make any changes.
spot2 Posted July 5, 2009 Author Posted July 5, 2009 Thanks for the replies guys. After refitting the wheel all play was gone from the disc. It was indeed me just being a tool!! A little knowledge is a dangerous thing................................ Cheers G
