brian111279 Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 hi can any body help my subaru has just started to jump out of 5th gear when i come of the throttle it is a x reg with 118000 miles on the clock. is this the gearbox on its way out or is it the bolt thats came of as i read in this forum and does anybody no how to check if this is the case
RS Grant Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Sounds like the 'known' fault, with the pin/bolt coming out to me... however, I'm pretty sure it requires a strip down to rectify so you might as well poke around and re-new anything else that needs it at the time, including a new clutch and flywheel unless its had one in recent times. Cheers, Grant
paulc555 Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 as usual anything technical I'm lost... but a quick bump up to the top for Brian......to see if he can get sorted... Paul
ciaranrb5 Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Yes defo the nut on the end of your gearbox. You will probably need a new 5th gear cog so would get one of them just to be safe. The box does not have to come off just the prop and gearbox mounts and you can remove cenre diff and access the nut and 5th gear while it is on the car. But if you have not had a cluthc change in a while say 40k i would do it at the same time as it it is only a matter of maybe an hours extra labour if that. hope that helps
Guest CRAIG D Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Yeah sounds like the pin has popped out. Only way to sort it out is to take the box off and strip it, and buy the time you do all that your probs better just gettingn a new box am affraid

There was also a write up in Total impreza of them doing it on the car!! What happens if you buy a second hand box and the same thing happens again?
