stum450n Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Been planning to get my engine bay cleaned up since I got the car and tonight, i thought I would check the lay of the land with respect to prepping the bay for cleaning properly with gunk next weekend... suffice to say, I got a little carried away and just checking what will need covering up to protect it from water, tuned into getting an old toothbrush, some soapy water and clearing away the worst of the grime. It's not looking bad at all to be honest but I think I'll still be doing the detailed bits with gunk next weekend. Before: After: To be honest, it was a damn sight dirtier than the before pic shows as that was taken late last year so it got a damn sight grimier in the mean time! Oooh, and if anyone knows somewhere I can get some straight stainless pipe to take the induction kit closer to the wing without it costing me £50, it would be very much appreciated! :madnoel:
Mobius 1 Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Oooh, and if anyone knows somewhere I can get some straight stainless pipe to take the induction kit closer to the wing without it costing me £50, it would be very much appreciated! Looks like another job for a fabby. What diameter do you want? Would you not like it in Ali?? I can put a swage on each end for the jubilee clip if in ali. Having said that we may have some thin gauge s/steel that I could swage. Looks like you'll need that polished to match you sparkling new engine bay Ben
Mobius 1 Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Just another thought, I could weld the straight on to your existing pipe thus doing away with the need for more flexi pipe to join the two together?? Looks like ali in the photo Ben

Errr, yeah, excuse my lack of knowledge but if it's shiny, it's stainless, if it's rusty it's regular steel... that's about as far as my knowledge goes!! :madnoel: Not sure of the diameter but I can get back to you on that one. Oh, and I have absolutely no idea what a swage is but if you're ever stuck analysing a typeface or a block of text, I could tell you what the difference between normal hyphens and discretionary hyphens is!!! Thanks again mate!
Mobius 1 Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Oh, ok I thought maybe you especially wanted it in stainless. It looks like Aluminium to me. That can be polished to a mirror finish and is usually what induction pipes are made from Are you around Bicester at any point?? Probably the easiest thing is to call past me at work. Then we can have a measure and look at the possibilities?? I finish at 4:30 at the mo. It could be done while you wait, prob not take longer than 30-40 mins. (I would preferably do it out of work time so 4:30 onwards or early in the morning before 8am) Ben

Trouble is, I have 4 days holiday left for the year (so that rules out any half days) and work 9am til silly o clock in completely the opposite direction! However, if early mornings suit, that could be a damned good option! Thanks again mate!

I am the fab shop foreman so I have a key, can come and go as I please I'll pm you my number then you can catch me when you want Ben If it's a Sat or Sun then name your preference mate! As long as there's not meets that day, I'll make myself available! :madnoel: Thanks again mate!
Mobius 1 Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 (edited) OK I may go to work and do a bit on my exhaust at the weekend anyway (maybe both days just to get it done and dusted) My weekend plans usually revolve around the weather and if it is suitable to fly my planes or not, so if its ok with you we can make a decision closer to next weekend when the weather forecast is more reliable? Do try and measure the pipe as accurately as you can, then I can see if we even have any material in stock. We may even have a small piece of samco hose to use as a joiner if you want to go down that route instead of welding. Cheers Ben Edited June 7, 2009 by Mobius 1
Mobius 1 Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Hey Stu Have you had a chance to measure the pipe diameter yet?? I want to make sure there will be something suitable here before you make a wasted journey Ben

notsosmall Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 The Werkstat Acrylic kit is really good stuff, The Jett is really easy and a pleasure to use, Layer it up and it gets better and better and easier and easier each coat you apply Here's a pic of mine wearing 7 layers applied an hour apart

The diameter has been measured (used the gauges at work so it's accurate to within 0.0025mm) and I've got it written down... just need to find the paper now! Will measure it again tomorrow and post it up on here so I don't loose it again! If notsosmall's pics are anything to go by, I think I'm going to need to get myself some Ray Charles sunglasses for the reflection!
andyjudge Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Mmm have to do some serious cleaning for next Thursday to keep up with you Stu.

andyjudge Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Yep thats the problem at the moment. Been running backwards & forwards to Mum & Dad's in Warminster over the last week or so & having great fun bashing B roads across Salisbury plain, so one run & the cars covered.
