PR08RAD Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 following on form me engine light flashing up after sundays meet last weekend IHad the engine managemnet flash up again on friday night in the HARD rain. but this time it stayed on. Once again i was accelerating from 60 upwards in 4h gear nothing harsh but not slowly . Once the light came on i slowed right off and coasted home. although car seemed to drive fine. Got the car in to be be checked yesterday , and its flaged up as a missfire on no.1 cylinder. Car ran fine, no "limp/safe" mode . and had no actual missfire at all?? the garage managed to clear fault code straight away. I drove to lakeside from maidstone and back and its runs fine as normal.... contemplating plugs coil and leads, no.1 looks a bitch to get to so would only rather do it once. and other advice or ideas ?? Oh I have switched to v power fuel as well and it still did this on a full tank of new fuel. secondly the clock on dash fades out totally somtimes, stays off for intermittent periods then just comes back on.... stupid question but does it have an independent battery? like a digital watch? as thats what it like, its just in a second or so slowly dimms out.... waits a while then next time i look its back on..
spannaz Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 clock is mains powered, but they aint the best as mine didnt work at all when i bought it, but its soon to be replaced with a POD! lol seems like possible water ingress or a lead breaking down when damp an under load
PR08RAD Posted November 30, 2008 Author Posted November 30, 2008 yeah seem to be that excess water causing it to trip out, gonna price coil and such likes on tuesday once back at work, think i will just get them changed and give car good service. before we get much more s**t weather. Oh and new wheels or coat mine by xmas
spannaz Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 i have been thinking new wheels, but think i'll be going LOW with the TEIN's and a rear ARB instead. Oh and some new Stepper guages in a "proper" pod, a new strut brace too and possibly a turbo timer to boot dunno when i'll get time to put all the Xmas lights up tho!
PR08RAD Posted November 30, 2008 Author Posted November 30, 2008 really want to see your gauges, think its about time if the clock plays up much longer ..... its gone
spannaz Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 lol, buy an aftermarket head unit (Kenwood Double DIN) that has a clock function and fit the guages like these, http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=sNaUTxeAtmw
PR08RAD Posted November 30, 2008 Author Posted November 30, 2008 gauges look expensive LO but i think i will
spannaz Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 no found a company in the east that can ship and supply all three for £126 the pod however is around £90 but you get what you pay for with those trust me!
rossyboywrx Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 oo them guages r sexy lol. my clock in my bug eye just stopped working one day but when i took it out to "sort it out" it fell apart and i lost the little buttons so now it is just there for show lol

spannaz Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/60mm-Stepper-White-T...A1%7C240%3A1318 it has a link to their webisite, and they are prosport stockists, although these arenot prosport guages but dynamyx ones, but are virtually the same. all come from the east lol

spannaz Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 no probs, but just dont go buying the cheap and nasty pods, unless you really really have to. I have one here and its awful to say the very least, and personally wouldn't have it in my dash, but each to their own i say
rossyboywrx Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 i know what u mean, ive got a pillar pod for my boost gauge that is reall good but before i got that i saw loads of cheap crappy ones
PR08RAD Posted December 1, 2008 Author Posted December 1, 2008 ooh i like them, need to sort out engine first and wheels but they will be next on list

Funny you should say that i have had a similar come up on mine after a long acceleration in 4th gear (same symptons as yours) ive only had mine mapped recently so was surprised its come up, i cant get the fault reader to work at the moment but last time mine was a misfire on no.3 cylinder. I was wondering whether i was overfuelling after the remap? The car seems to be running ok except the light flashing after this long accelaration and then staying on.
PR08RAD Posted December 2, 2008 Author Posted December 2, 2008 just gonna get it serviced, replace plugs and keep fingers crossed
Jolly Green Monster Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 random misfire and similar codes are usually the neutral position switch.. the tip on neutral position switch is plastic and wears away.. when the ecu sees the neutral position switch indicate neutral it switches to different tables which are intended for use when stationary and tends to throw misfire or cam position error codes etc.. there is a cheap fix.. the neutral position switch has a fairly fat washer.... it can be swapped with a thinner one and the switch goes further into the gearbox.. solving the problem for another 3years or so until the tip wears further Simon
PR08RAD Posted December 10, 2008 Author Posted December 10, 2008 ooh cheers simon, will have to try that. although tonight fault code reader flagged up missfire on cylinders 1,3 and 4... ? so I have new coils on order (4) form adl, but is its just a washer ...... i owe you a case of beer. lol
