How Important Are The Plastic Engine Under Guards?

Why I'm asking you say well i was driving home on sat as it was turning dark and at the last minute i saw a dead sea gull on the road but it was too late to avoid it and it was quite a bang when i hit it when i looked later i noticed that there was a big whole in the under guard around the front gear box mount. Could this cause problems or not ???

I hope not, cause I lost mine in the gravel at Knockhill a long time ago!

I've heard that by removing the large one under the engine you can benefit from 2 degree lower oil temps. Mines been off for 3 years without any issues

Looking forward to hear what you guys recommend on this particular subject.. I never really bothered replacing the one on my old car but with this one I'm wondering if it's better to keep it in place ?

Removing it obviously could help reduce engine temps but will keeping it in place help the air flow under the car etc ?

If i dump it will the engine bay not fill of mud and road grime ???

Never had any issues with mine and it was very low to the ground.

Also depends whether or not you take it through farmers fields up there :D

I've had mine laying in my Dads shed for 2 years now. Always intended to bolt it back up likes, but never done it! After a year or so and my heat wrap on the dp still looks ok too..... so don't worry about it me thinks.

Well I'm gonna be different and say I keep mine on.. Despite all the crap that can get washed in there, I drive down a farmish road everyday for work and all the crap of the day gets thrown up and maybe the odd stone/bounler gets thrown around.. Infact, really should get a rear diff guard at some point.

However, just road driving your probably safe to leave it off. With little chance of running over something solid..

There's also the silly F1 theory that it helps downforce due to making the bottom of the car flatter helping aerodynamics.. But it's not exactly flat and I doubt it makes any real effect in the real world...

I try not to drive in fields but the farmers have the habbit of dragging there fields on the road to the point one day i had to drive around the lumps :icon_pray: it might be worth my while invesing in a propper sump guard especially with all the dead practically concrete seagulls around :icon_pray:

i had a beatrush 1 on my car when i got it and have kept it on

heres the speal-

•Air turbulence is significantly reduced, producing a more stable ride at higher speeds and increasing down force by creating higher suction pressures between the panel and road.

•Engine temperatures are reduced and stabilized by removing heat from the engine compartment with specialized slits made to draw out hot air while the vehicle is in motion. This is successfully achieved during the creation of down force, as this negative pressure sucks out the heat and is then swooped out by colder air moving underneath.

•Provides greater protection under the engine than stock plastic panels during heavy track or circuit racing competitions.

•Track tested & developed by Beatrush, Japan.

yea i know smells of $hite but a lot easier than the standard 1 to remove/re fit

I had me mind made up for as what to do with the underguard today after a blast in the car you can now hear it flapping underneath the car so its coming off tomorrow. might order a metal sump guard :)
