Front Speakers For Newage?

How are y'all this fine Saturday morning? Looks like we might see a wee bit dry weather this weekend

My question...

I recently replaced the head unit in my MY06 WRX (colossal improvement) and I'm now looking to upgrade the front speakers. I'm not after anything fancy, just something around £100 or under that will fit in the stock mounts.

Any recommendations?

Recently replaced my head unit with Kenwood 8220BT, vast improvement, then kept with Kenwood 3 - way speakers in front doors and Kenwood 2-way in the back door, cost of speakers fitted £214, that included extra sound proofing on the doors, sounds superb now. Hope this of some help.

I've never applied soundproofing before, but have always thought it must be a good idea. Did you do this yourself? If so, what was involved - i.e. which areas did you cover and what did you have to dismantle to do so? Also, which type of soundproofing did you go for?

I fitted Infinity reference 6510cs components to the front and Infinity reference 5022i in the rear.

I also added Dynomat sound deadening on all 4 doors. It makes a huge difference. You may need spacer rings to fit the larger speakers in the front and rear I did on my Blobeye.

I'll probably hunt down some components that have a shallow mid/bass driver, to avoid using spacers etc. I'll take the hit on sound quality, but it'll certainly be better than the stock setup! (if past experience is anything to go by).

I imported some spacers from the states which made the job easy, I think you can get them in the UK now might be worth a post on scoobynet ice section to find out.

If you don't fancy the hassle of importing spacers from the states then funnily enough the ones to use are the ones made for the Corsa C (new one).

I had read this online and then when I went into my friendly local Car Audio Specialists (NOT Halfrauds BTW!!) they said the exact same thing as they use them all the time when doing the fitting themselves!
