yogi-
I went to start the beast this morning and no pulse was felt, so i called subaru assist who came round to do some tests, He found nothing wrong with the battery but he did say that some Impreza's have to drive along with their side lights on??? he then explained, it's because their battery only gets a charge that way??? and that Impreza's have "intelligent charging" (according to Subaru). My battery was only showing 9.6 volts when engine running, but when I turned my side lights on the meter showed 13. 6 volts. Has anyone heared of this before I may not be at the meet on Friday as I think tha alternator has gone down Edited August 14, 2008 by yogi- Link to comment
Garth W
That does sound like the alternator m8, oh well you'll have to ride that bike more now! Link to comment
HairyDJ
Hmmmm, Garage changed my battery at the last service and when it got delivered back (by their accountant, 'cos he lives closest) he said that he'd driven back on sidelights to give it a charge. At the time I ignored it and assumed that accountants don't know as much as the guys who get their hands dirty, but now you've got me wondering? Link to comment

Has anyone heared of this before I remember Granby saying something about this ages ago - something about keeping the lights on 'reminds' the system to keep charging every now and again rather than just lay dormant until you turn the key in the ignition Link to comment

It is true that more impreza's brake down in summer months due to batteries because the drivers turn off side lights. The fact that when you turn on your light the volts go up, shows that the alternator is working fine. if it dropped, i'd worry. Gives you a reason to take a nice long night time drive to recharge you battery too! Might even join you if you fancy going to lakeside a few time Link to comment
yogi-
If the alternator is working properly then you dont need to turn your lights on to charge the battery up, plus it's just started playing up. Car is booked in for Monday morning now so hope they sort it on warranty, otherwise i'll be £684 + VAT if I have to buy one Edited August 18, 2008 by yogi- Link to comment
