pistonbroke2
I have been made aware of certain information that concerns all of us as Impreza drivers. A certain individual who I am not allowed to disclose has recently been released from the clink. He has an interest in stealing high performance sports cars in particular the impreza. I don't want to worry all of you unecessarily, however, I believe prevention is a better measure than the other outcome. His modus operandi is to 'pop' the lock of UPVC style front doors and steal the car keys from within. If the door is double locked, it makes it virtually impossible to force the door. It makes no difference if the occupier is out or not, he has the front to do it while you are sleeping. Therefore, I strongly suggest you double lock your front door before going to bed and everytime you leave the house. Do not leave your car keys on tables in the hallway as fishing techniques have also been adopted in the past where they simply hook the keys through the letter box. Like I said, I don't want to worry you, but I'd rather let you in on this, rather than read a thread in the stolen section having not told you. The toe rag operates throughout Kent. Link to comment

Why aren't you allowed to name him? Although I agree with not leaving you keys close to the letterbox for the fishing technique, I also wouldn't hide them, as I think it'd be better to let them find the keys nice and easily as opposed to coming into a room where you & your family are sleeping... Don't need to go any further. Just to add: thanks for the heads up to be doubley secure. Edited August 1, 2008 by timmy2take Link to comment

leebo77
That's quite a discreet way of doing it.... ...they smashed the fkc out of my sister in laws patio doors to get to my keys. I'm discreet, you can tell me who he is (and where he lives). Link to comment
eurosti
So what would happen if this scrote got caught in the act and the owner of the target vehicle used resonable force to detain him? Ie stickin a licenced 12 bore in his dish!!! Or a swift smack round the head with a baseball bat.Im afraid that is what he would get if he came to mine. Glad i dont live in Kent, but other places are just as bad. Cant the Police set up a sting to get these scrotes back inside? Makes you sick that you cant defend your property from these scumbags. swifty1981
I do double lock my doors anyway after seeing in the stolen section, how scoobies are being stolen. but i have to admit i do also hide my keys up. but like timmy said its prob best not to hide them. Link to comment
pistonbroke2
If you can justify what you do to the guy when you catch him as 'reasonable', then crack on I would still stash the keys up somewhere. If they are not at hand, then the guy risks waking you up when rifling through things. Trust me, if he hears you wake up, he'll be off on his toes. The best deterrent is a dog, in my years spent doing front line work, I never once reported a burglary where there was a dog present. I have however seen burglars caught by dogs, dogs have no idea about 'reasonable force' and really do go to town on anyone who crosses them. I saw one guy with whole chunks missing from his arm and back in custody where a dog decided to have a chew. It was no doubt the best bit of punishment he's ever known. Thats why I have a big rottwieler cross patrolling my house. Link to comment

Scooby Hoo?
Thanks for telling everyone Pistonbroke, I was trying to be a good boy. Lucky for me all my car keys live in the safe. Your can get a small digital one that bolts to the floor/wall for about £30, cheap for the piece of mind. Link to comment
