got two questions,

1)what is the best way to check your oil level and get an accurate reading when your engine is fully up to temp?

2) been thinking about putting the RA on a bit of a diet and was wondering what the law was on carrying a spare tire? i noticed on Carl Daveys site his girlfriend didnt have a spare wheel when it came brand new http://www.fecker.co.uk/scooby/diary.php?id=54 so is it legal to not have a spare will a tin of tire weld or something do the job?

1) best time to check oil levels is when the engine is cold and on a flat surface - of course.

2) I don't think there is a law that states you should carry a spare - two reasons: 1) new cars don't include them but instead put in a tin on that stuff you mentioned; 2) MOT does not require the spare to be legal, so if its bald its the same as not being there as it is legally useless.

out with the spare tyre, carpets, seats, speakers, all ICE in fact (you dont need it :D ), go to the gym, buy some carbon (but paint it).

theres a few ideas for yi min :hl:

naa its not a total strip out im going for, just the basic things TBH, i like it too much to do that to it :rotfl:

intresting points about the spare wheel though, ive always been under the impression you needed to carry one for legal reasons :D

I heard a while ago that a lot of new cars don't have spares but some come with some form of recovery cover and the tyre weld stuff

My mate had a focus RS and it didn't have a spare, not even anywhere to put one! He ended up with a space saver bouncing around the boot!

Dunno what in the RA would save you much weight, are most parts not as light as poss anyway?

spare tire, air con, rear seats, fronts (replaced with light weights)

I literally don't have anything after my front seats, took out - Seats, carpet, interior panels, rear seatbelts, spare & the sound deadening is coming out soon too. Loosing the front driver seat in favour of a Recaro, sitting on the handbrake during "enthusiastic" driving isn't all its cracked upto be :D It's all legal as far as i know?

Non Impreza Content, scoobyiain will be happy to know that the sponge isn't used to clean the car :D

The '94 WRX ra I use for a track car has had a total strip out.

Originally it should have weighed 1170kg, but I took out over 100kg of stuff I didn't need anymore.

Then put 50kg back in with a full welded in roll cage. Better safe than sorry.

Front seats were very heavy, at 45kg for both, rears were less than 10kg. Carpets, sound proofing, excess trim, un-needed wiring; get rid of it all.

I've still a few jobs to do, but my target is 1100kg with cage.

not strictly true, if you have a spare, it has to be legal. However if there isn't one there, thats fine :D
